The British Collie Club was formed in 1924 from the combination of the Collie Club, the Northern Collie Club, the Rough Blue Merle Club and the Smooth Collie Club. The amalgamation of the four clubs brought together a vast knowledge in club management and experience in the breeding of Rough and Smooth Collies. Read more.

The Rough and Smooth Collie belong to the Pastoral Group, their original job being to work the sheep, and a few still do this today. They are gentle, affectionate and intelligent and once a friend, always a friend. Collies are sensitive, love to play and although they will quite happily spend some of the day on their own, or with other canine friends, they really do love human company.

Collies are adaptable and enjoy obedience training, agility and obedience, and are the ideal family companion. They do not need huge amounts of exericse, but ideally a walk of an hour a day, and access to a reasonable sized garden, with free running when they are old enough.
